About me:
I grew up in Northern NJ, with a lifelong passion for both Music and Learning. In 2nd Grade, I began studying my first instrument, the Drum Set. In 4th Grade, I signed up to play the Trumpet in Band, which I have practiced ever since, with experience in Concert Band, Jazz Band, Orchestra, Marching Band, and more.
In 8th Grade, I picked up a broken guitar and taught myself some chords before saving up to buy a new one myself. By exploring how harmony is created, I was introduced to the fascinating field of music theory, where music and math come together to make patterns that help us understand how music is made. Because of this, I still love to compose my own music, write my own songs, and arrange for band.
I traveled to Nashville, TN ("Music City") to study at Vanderbilt University, where I earned my degrees in Music Education. I performed on the Trumpet and also studied Saxophone, Flute, and Bass, in addition to classes on Piano, Woodwinds, Brass, Strings, and Voice. Of course, there was much more to learn, from Music History to Elementary Methods, and especially studying Teaching & Learning and spending time in schools.
This is now my 11th year teaching music in Middletown. I started off teaching only General Music, where I got to use my guitar and voice to spread my knowledge and love for music to hundreds of students. I learned so much, and deepened my respect for Elementary Education and folk music. After the last few years of teaching Music Specials, Chorus, and Band lessons, I am very excited to put all of my energy into Instrumental Music this year!
When I'm not at school, I enjoy spending time with my family (my wife and 2 year old son, Henry), playing tennis, writing music, cooking dinner, and adding to my ever-growing collection of vinyl records. I continue to enjoy learning about new things, like woodworking, botany, and especially how to be a good father and neighbor. I look forward to learning about you and making music together!
